Outcome:
Education is the strongest ladder out of poverty — yet for many students in rural Sri Lanka, that ladder is missing rungs. At Shepherd Trust, we believe that talent should never be silenced by circumstance. That’s why our Educational Scholarship Initiative supports promising students from marginalized communities who risk dropping out due to financial hardship.
Through this program, we identify school-going children — particularly those from single-parent households, war-affected areas, and tea estate regions — and provide them with scholarships that cover school fees, uniforms, transportation, books, and sometimes even meals.
But our support goes deeper. We conduct regular follow-ups with families and teachers, offer mentorship, and host academic workshops to ensure that students are not just staying in school — they’re thriving. Many of our scholarship recipients have gone on to enter university, technical colleges, and community leadership roles.
Education is not charity — it’s a right. And every scholarship we award is an investment in a child’s dream and in Sri Lanka’s future.
