Outcome:
In many rural communities across Sri Lanka, hunger is not just a hardship — it’s a daily reality. Shepherd Trust’s Community Feeding Program was born out of a simple yet profound mission: no child should have to study on an empty stomach, and no family should have to choose between food and survival.
Our feeding programs operate in high-need areas, targeting vulnerable children, elderly citizens, and low-income households. With the help of local volunteers, we distribute freshly prepared, nutritious meals that include rice, vegetables, protein, and seasonal fruits — meals that are both culturally appropriate and balanced.
But this is more than a food drive. Our model is community-based and dignified — we involve local farmers, home cooks, and youth volunteers, creating a cycle of local support and ownership. Some kitchens are even run by single mothers we’ve trained and empowered through other initiatives.
The results speak volumes: stronger school attendance, healthier children, and tighter community bonds. Every plate served is a message of care, a step toward justice, and a sign that no one is forgotten.
